14 Aug 2014 - 3 hours at Melbourne

13 Aug 2014

Check in at Singapore Jetstar counter around 7.40pm. Our flight by Jetstar from Singapore to Melbourne followed by flight by Qantas from Melbourne to Auckland. We asked if our luggage could be transferred from Melbourne to Auckland so that we did not have to collect our luggage at Melbourne. We were told that it was possible and the Jetstar would make the arrangement. Actually, it was stated in the terms and condition under Jetstar that we had to collect our luggage and our flight was not considered a transit. ie, we had to go through the custom and re- checked in to the Jetstar counter.

Reached Melbourne after around 8 hours of flight. Lucky was the aircraft was not the small plane for asia country. It was larger aircraft for long distance without entertainment.

We wanted to be sure about our luggage transferred and we checked with the jetstar service counter at Melbourne regarding the baggage transferred. The unfriendly Australia Jetstar counter guy told us that they would not do the transfer. We had to collect our baggage and re-check in to the Qantas Counter as it was totally different company.

We were out of the custom and out from the baggage claim area. The unhelpful guy told us this and did not offer a solution. He asked to check with Qantas counter when they opened for check in around 1pm. So....What happened to our luggage? Yes throughout the day, we were worried! What if we really did not get our luggage? We had to purchase the necessary clothing, including charger for our camera?! Well, we totally had no mood to walk Melbourne!

We took the sky bus from Melbourne to city, Southern Cross Station bus interchange cost Aud 30, return ticket. No point staying at the airport for long hours. Took breakfast which cost Aud 19 including cappuccino. The breakfast was huge and I couldn't finish.

A torture to walk all the way back to the Southern Cross Station bus interchange as we did not purchase the ticket for the transport in Melbourne.

Reached the Melbourne airport around 12.20pm. We went to check with Qantas regarding our baggage. There was this counter, "Qantas baggage" and we checked with the counter. The person asked to show our baggage receipt and she then told us that we could collect our luggage in Auckland as shown on the receipt.  We were relieved then. Chong had lost the baggage receipt and when we checked in to collect our boarding pass, the counter actually requested for the receipt. Pray that we could get our luggage in Auckland.  Else...We do not have our itinerary, charger...clothing etc..

On board Qantas airline was really good. We had free entertainment and free meals.
Stop at Melbourne for flight transferred to Auckland was not bad after all.

We got our luggage in Auckland and took the air bus to Queens street which cost us NZ 28 return ticket. Requested for the bus driver to informed us when we reached our stop. We were actually the 5th stop once we reached Queens street

Terrible walk to our hotel as it was all up slope!
